If I download the game and just buy a guitar without the original... will i still be able to play with the guitar?

You mean the special controller thing? Don't think you can buy it separately can you? I've certainly not seen it in stores, but if you can, then you would be able to use it on a backup.

Maby at a pond shop? LOl. Um you could try stores that are ment for just video games and sell used things. They might have a used controller for guitar hero.
