I'm beginning to rip my dvds to DivX so I can take them all with me to Iraq on one hard drive. However, if you're viewing the files in windows, the thumbnail view gives you the first frame of the file. I'd like to insert a frame into my video files that is basically a picture of the dvd cover, which would make cataloguing much better. Currently, I'm saving a jpeg of the cover that I saved from amazon in a folder with the movie, and can then set the icon of the folder to reflect that picture. I'd rather prefer to not have to make a folder for every movie though, hence the desire to figure out how to make each file have a thumbnail that I want. Or is there an easier way of doing this without actually editing the DivX file? I've also tried using a couple of different programs to include movie maker, but they basically recreate the whole movie and take hours, which isn't feasible when you're talking about 400+ files. Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

I have used DivX/XviD 'launchers' that were pretty kewl, they would automatically do that (place a random frame into their little 'menu') or you could also choose to select any specific frame or picture you want.
Yes! I have a pocket-drive - it uses an 80GB notebook harddrive, will hold ~100 2-hour movies and is the same size as a Canadian large-regular pack of cigarettes, excellent.
Try not to transcode your AVIs, it will not help their quality.
How are you making your AVIs, will you use XviDcodec?
Technically, you could actually physically add 1 frame to the beginning of your AVI by appending the movie to the frame, direct-stream copy (both) using VDubMod or whatever (I use NanDub).
But in that regard, it would certainly be easier for you to just adjust your thumbnails manually, y'know?
Anyway, The Doomer used to have a collection of DivX launchers for you to check into. Maybe they will help you. That is doom9 by the way,
