Hi, this is my first post. I hope it's in the right forum.

I ripped V for Vendetta, Benchwarmers and a DVD for my friend's work. All were ripped with DVD Decrypter and burned on Verbatim +R DL media None of them will play on my sony ns575p player, or an old apex ad-1200 that usually plays anything. The sony is supposed to work with + or - media and usually does.

I tried ripping Benchwarmers with Ripit4me, and that didn't solve the problem. Tried it with Vendetta also, and the disc won't play.

All the discs will play on my lite-on lvw-5005. My burner on the PC is a lite-on shw-16h5s

The weird thing is that I have other movies burned on discs from the same spindle that work fine on all my players.

I tried burning the Vendetta image with Nero with no luck.

What do you guys think? Bad media?

Thanks!

how did you use DVDDecrypter.....ISO read.... ISO write? verbatim DLs are the best DLs out there. here are other reasons:

there are plenty of reasons why certain dvds won't play in other players:

1. burning speeds: burn at 4x so there will be less writing errors (rule of thumb is to burn at half the rated speed of the disk--8X disk burn at 4x).
2. read manual for your stand alone player and use the disks that will play in your player. If your player is less than 2 yrs old then it should play the + or - R disks! I said SHOULD that's why you read the manual.
3. try booktyping your drive to DVd-ROM so it will make your +R disks more compatible to players. Read this:
http://k-probe.com/bitsetting-booktype-faq.php
4. make sure that there are no finger prints or scratches on your disk that make it hard for the player to read the disk!
5. use good quality media (rule of thumb....buy the ones that are Made in Japan.) Verbatim is a top notch disk and is the only exception to this rule....some Verbatims are made in Taiwan and they are top notch!
6. and don't burn too close to the outer edge of the disk ..... which will make the disk unreadable! but using good media you will be able to burn close to the edge better than lesser quality media. Just in case I only burn no closer than 4400MB, so if you can set your programs to that, all the better!

follow these little tips of the trade and you'll have better success! good luck.

Thanks for the reply. I did use Decrypter ISO read and write, but only after I used Ripit4me. The one exception is the disc I made for my friends work. Its a disc on how to rebuild an automatic transmission, and appeared to have no copy protection. It ripped and burned fine and played in my sony player.

Do you think it could be my burner? There is a new firmware available, and the program from lite-on wouldn't install it. It would get to 100% and just hang up, use 100% CPU, all that good stuff. After I shut the update program down Nero info tool and the update program both show the firmware is still version LSON.

I checked the sony website for my player, and it says that it should NOT play +R DL discs, but it has played them many times before, and still plays them now. This is why I'm thinking that the burner might be at fault.

As to booktyping, I couldn't get decrypter to change it tp dvd-rom. Nero did change it, and the disc still wouldn't play. I do know how to change the book type in decrypter, its pretty easy. The discs that play on the sony all show the booktype as DVD+R DL.

All the discs were burned at 4x speed, I had a choice of 2.4 or 4x and I decided to try the fastest speed. It worked on the first discs (walk the line, Monster's ball, a couple others).

Thanks again!
