could someone just briefly explain how do i get music from my non media center windows xp onto my 360's hdd???

As far as I've noticed, you can't. You have to stream it from your PC with windows media connect. Install that on your PC, leave it on and go into media with the XBOX360. Select your computer and then make playlists.

Put a CD in the 360 and go to the music player. You'll see and option to rip the CD to your hard drive. It can be a burned CD and even a CD-RW, but it has to be an audio CD. A CD of MP3s won't work.

I use Nero to make audio CDs, but you can do it with windows media and a number of other programs. The only thing you can do with a USB stick is stream the MP3s. You can't put them on the hard drive. I guess it's MS's anti-piracy thing, which makes no since you can just burn a CD and rip it. They just made it take longer for putting your music on the hard drive. BTW it's audio CDs not DVDs.
