I am using a Dell Optiplex GX150 with Windoze 2000. At first I was using DVD Shrink and/or DVD Decrypter for making backup's of my DVD's. For some reason I installed Nero 6.0 for burning but mainly for converting avi's to dvd. Everything was fine until the installation of Nero and then I noticed the audio played fast. But not only did the audio play fast, the video played fast too. Now they are both in sync, so that is not a problem but I can't watch anything on the computer because of the "Alvin and the Chipmunks" audio and the too fast speed of the movie.

A burnt DVD has the right audio and speed but I don't understand why.

I uninstalled Nero thinking that would reset everything but now I have no Nero and the audio and video are still that way. I have 3 of the Dell's (got 'em for $75.00 each, out of warranty) and each one is used for a specific task so I'm not above reformatting the HD's and starting over but would rather not.

I would certainly appreciate some help on this matter.

Hi Homer_J2
Uninstalling Nero (or any program really) leaves traces behind. So run the clean tool for Nero 6:
http://ww2.nero.com/nero6/enu/Nero_6_CleanTool.html

Look in add/remove programs and see if InCD is listed. This is Nero's packet writing software. If it is uninstall it and run that clean tool:

Reboot the pc - if you use a registry cleaner then run it and clear out the rest. If not you can try this one (free):

Binkie7,

Thanks for the input. Even though the clean tools fixed some problems, it did not fix the "Alvin and the Chipmunks" audio and video problem. I have a new Pioneer DVD burner on the way and would like to be able to use it right away so I may just have to re-format the hard-drive. Over the years that has proven to be the only real way to fix problems. Oh by the way, your link to http://cccleaner.com actually takes you to http://spywarremoval.us/?rid=577059.

Why do software companies put out software that has so many glitches that they have to dedicate pages and pages of crap a customer has to read thru to try and make it work right? Then they dang near break their arms patting themselves on the back touting how great their software is. If you do manage to get a response from the company they will usually tell you that it is your fault, i.e. your computer is not big enough, fast enough, strong enough and we didn't build it to be used on an outdated 6 month old computer running more than 3 programs stupid.

Anyway, I digress. Thanks again for the help and if you can think of anything else to keep me from re-formatting, let me know.

Binkie7,

Oh yeah, the other reason I decided to uninstall Nero was because I could no longer just drag and drop files to my DVD folder. I had to start Nero and use that GUI. I thought once I uninstalled Nero I would get control back but no.

Now when I try to drag and drop files to my DVD drive a little window pops up and says "D:\ is not accessible. Incorrect function". This is going to make it kind of tuff to move my files over to DVD so I can reformat the HD.

I am on a network though so I guess I can just move the files to a different computer. Any thoughts?

Sorry bout the link - instead of the ole copy & paste - I just typed it and put 1 too many c's. http://ccleaner.com

Next do a search and type in Nero and one for Ahead - to find anything else relating to Nero/Ahead.

Nero does have 2 other clean tools you might want to look at(a registry checker and driver cleaner - hmmm wonder why:)
http://ww2.nero.com/nero6/us/Driver_CleanTool_and_RegistryChecker.html

You can also try uninstalling the Drive in device manager - rebooting and let windows do it's thing to reinstall.

Next would be going into the registry but if not carefully that can do more harm.
Let's see if other suggestions help 1st and we can go from there.

Binkie7,

I tried removing the drive and rebooting, several times. No luck.
I moved everything over to my Proliant and am in the process of reinstalling Window$ 2000 right now.

Thanks for the help though and the CCleaner program is great.
