Well if I had to make any suggestions. I would go a different way. I wouldnt be going socket AM2. It may be the newest thing but the newest stuff costs more. Look at socket 939 and how long it stayed around. Maybe not new tech but it most likely wont be obsolete for a long time. This is the current cpu I use and very highly recommend for a gamer on the budget. A socket 939 amd 3200+. At http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16819103535 and currently $80. For a motherboard for the builds I do as a business and for myself I have never encountered any problems using Abit and Asus boards. Here is a Abit board thats outfitted with 4 3/Gb Sata ports, i believe gigabit lan,2 pci slots, 2 pci express slots, 3 pci x1 slots, supports up to 4gb of DDR 400 ram running in dual channel mode, nForce4 chipest so SLI support is there. Its a full size ATX mobo model Abit KN8 SLI (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16813127225). For a Hard drive theres no point building a new system off old standards and like you chose a 3/Gb hard drive wuold be best. But at $67 for 160Gb there a better options for a mere $20 more. Here are two Seagate drives, both sporting 16mb of cache, 7200 rpms, and Sata 3/GB interfaces. One is $79.99 and offers 250GB of storage and the other offers 320GB of storage for $94.99. For a videocard for the gamer on the budget I would recommend a 7600GT by either eVGA or BFG Tech (as they both offer lifetime warranties for as long as you own the card, other companies say "lifetime" but its only for the products shelf life) all 7600GT cards do NOT require to have a power cable plugged into them and the cards support SLI.
So heres a recap of:
Mobo: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16813127225 CPU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16819103535 Hard-Drive(s):
250Gb: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16822148144 320Gb: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16822148140
If you intend to buy a power supply dont buy the cheapest one their is. It wont be dependable and could fry your PC's components. And most (if not all) 7600GT videocards are in the $160-$169 price range and none of them require external power so you could save money on the power supply.

I dont want to force anything on you but for $5 more you can get the 250GB Seagate I listed which sports twice as much cache and the new tech. perpendicular recording technology. I dont have time to put what perpend. recor. tech. is but if you want to know ill post it. I also believe that the 7200.10 was quieter and had better read/write times than its predecessor the 7200.9. I just noticed this look at the customer rating scale in the top right hand corner of the screen for the hard drive you chose. The ratings are all over the board. Now look at the 250GB I posted everyone who reviewed it gave it 5 stars.

Please post what specs you are going with. Do you really want a microATX board or a full size ATX board? Or does it matter?

I really like this setup you just posted. It seems pretty good for a budget system. I just wanted to point out that the motherboard you chose has no onboard video. I was under the impression that this was a big deal but otherwise Id say nice system config. Great mobo from a good dependable company. ram and hard drive also from good companies and the cpu is pretty good for a budget system. id go for it. just keep in mind that you dont have any form of video (onboard/add-in card) so you will need to buy a videocard.

OK, HUGE update on video cards!
The X850XT is selling for $120 on newegg. $90 after a rebate. This is currently THE best performance/price ratio you can get for any part I've ever seen.
For a cheapo gaming PC(<$700)
A64 3700+ Sandiego $105
ASUS A8N-E Motherboard $89.99
2 x 512MB Patriot Signature $94.00
Sapphire X850XT $119.99
With a decent 500W PSU a good case with some fans, a 160GB HDD and a CD-RW DVD-ROM Combo drive.
Assuming you have your own copy of windows we're looking at about $650 I think. This is a system that will play, Half-Life 2, FarCry, FEAR, DOOM 3, Prey, all flawlessly at 1280 x 1024 or 1280 x 968! Awesome value for your price. If you need a budget system this is it!
I'm hoping this isn't a weekend special. I don't think it is because it dropped to $129.95 last week, sold out, and now it's at $119.99.
You WILL NEVER find a deal as good as this again!
AMD Phenom II X6 1100T 4GHz(20 x 200) 1.5v 3000NB 2000HT, Corsair Hydro H110 w/ 4 x 140mm 1500RPM fans Push/Pull, Gigabyte GA-990FXA-UD5, 8GB(2 x 4GB) G.Skill RipJaws DDR3-1600 @ 1600MHz CL9 1.55v, Gigabyte GTX760 OC 4GB(1170/1700), Corsair 750HX
