I am starting this tread as I have not been able to find out any answers specifically about this movie and the issues with splitting it.
I have done a few movies prior to this one with no problems, but...this one seems to have thrown a curve ball that I just can't seem to understand, and I was wondering if someone else had delt with the same issue or could figure it out?
This movie seems to be different than others in that the main movie is not in VTS_01 0r VTS_02 like most movies, but is all the way in VTS_04. (there are only 07 VTS files on this movie)
Not sure if that should make it any harder to work with when splitting or not? But, here is where I am to date with it?
I, of course, ripped the entire movie to the hard drive, np.
Then used IFOedit to split it, by selecting VTS_04.ifo, again, no probs there.
Now, once I have the two halves of the movie in a DVD1 & DVD2 folder. I go ahead, and do as the guides all say, which is copy and paste the VIDEO_TS files as needed in the folder as well.
Then, of course, since I also played the movie in the DVD player of IFO after ripping, it told me it plays Title 1,2, & 4.
So, I then copy those VTS files to the same folder as well.
Then using IFOedit, I opened VIDEO_TS in the DVD1 folder, remove RCE to make region free on all IFO's, then I "get VTS sectors" as instructed by the guides.
No, as one would conclude, the disc should be ready to burn, so...to make sure I open IFOedit, then open VIDEO_TS again, and use DVD preview the test it, as everyone knows that if your movie does not play here, it sure will not play in a set top player.
So, that being said, the movie plays fine, I can skip to different chapters in the movie, etc.
Here is the problem!! When I try to burn it to disc, I launch Prassi, select the folder called VIDEO_TS, which is inside the DVD1 main folder, load a disc, and click to burn it.
Then, of course, Prassi checks the contents of the folder to make sure all the necessary files are there, and returns an error to me. (have tried multiple blank DVDR's also)
Now, this error would imply that there is a file missing that would be required by the set top player I presume, as to why it will not go ahead and burn the movie. But what I am missing is, what file it could possibly be?
I have gone over it several times, and reread all the guides on splitting, and according to them, I have placed all the correct files in the folder?
And further more, if it was not set up correctly, it surely would not play fine with the DVD player in IFOedit?
So.....since I have reached the end of my ability to understand what file it could be wanting, I figured I would put this out to the community for a little extra help!!
Below is a full listing of the files in the DVD1 folder, so please take a look and let me know what I am doing wrong or missing?
Also, if anyone else has experienced similar issues with this particular movie, please explain how you were able to resolve them!!
Ok....here goes!
DVD1:
VIDEO_TS.ifo
VIDEO_TS.bup
VIDEO_TS.vob
VTS_01_0.vob
VTS_01_0.ifo
VTS_01_0.bup
VTS_01_1.vob
VTS_02_0.vob
VTS_02_0.ifo
VTS_02_0.bup
VTS_02_1.vob
VTS_04_0.vob
VTS_04_0.ifo
VTS_04_0.bup
VTS_04_1.vob (main movie)
VTS_04_2.vob (main movie)
VTS_04_3.vob (main movie)
VTS_04_4.vob )main movie)
There they are, so...please feel free to point out if there is something I am overlooking that is needed!!
Thanks for the assistance in advance!
:)

Hi!
I'm not sure... but may be it should be C:\VIDEO_TS and not like you have C:\DVD1\VIDEO_TS... I think that is important!?
Another tip is to buy a DVD-RW, and test burn your files before destroying your DVD-R's.
good luck!

Thanks, but I already tried that, to no avail.
Shouldn't really matter where the folder is, as long as it is named VIDEO_TS.
Good luck.

Well, I have been able to spilt Meet Joe Black successfully into 2 discs. I found a real good guide on a different forum...I'm not sure how the moderator feels about promoting other sites.
The method does involve creating some dummy vobs with IFOEdit.

MikeyC,
You can check doom9 for the splitting guide when the 4.36GB limit is exceeded. Do a search on these forums for the correct location on Doom9's site.
The reader's digest version that I use is this:
Split with SmartRipper:
Create your two folders, Disk1 & Disk2
Run SmartRipper, but only rip half the chapters and place in Disk1.
Run SmartRipper again, ripping the remaining chapters and placing results in Disk2.
Create subdirectories in Disk1 & Disk2, called VIDEO_TS
Copy the VIDEO_TS.IFO & VIDEO_TS.BUP from the original DVD (within VIDEO_TS folder) to Disk1 & Disk2.
Within Disk2 you will need to create a couple of dummy Vob files, if not in sequence.
Then run IFOedit on both Disk1 and Disk2, placing the results of each in the VIDEO_TS folders.
Get VTS sectors after each run.
Then, you are ready to burn.

I think it is important that on the "root" of the disc you have only the VIDEO_TS file and sometimes an AUDIO_TS file (empty file, helps with playability on some set top boxes)
I am also having problems with this technique though so you are not alone.
Did you also adjust the number of chapters ?

Well, I have tried most all of what you guys are saying, but...still no go?
I even tried what another person suggested which was turning the VIDEO_TS folder into a .img, which creates an image of it to burn to DVD.
But, when I have IFOedit make the image, the file that comes out is only 212,810 KB or so in size, so it is obviously not the movie?
I tried the same on several other movies I was working on, and it worked great, but...I am totally stumped as to why this particular movie is so much trouble??
It actually is the first movie I have seen so far, where the actual movie is placed so far down in the sequence of VOB files, ie. main movie is in VOB_04 instead of VOB_01 or 02 where most all other movies are?
Any other ideas would be great!!!
Thanks!

Do you want to keep all the extra`s ?
I am trying a technique were I create a disc with just the movie, no menu, and as soon as you put it in your DVD it plays, and then splitting that ?
Is Behind Enemy lines small enough to fit just the movie on one disc ?

Joshua,
This particular movie, Behind Enemy Lines, is just a bit too big for one DVDR...Keeping in mind that I burned it with full quality, NO extras. Put disk1 in and it begins playing....
MIKEYC,
Here is my what my DISK 1 looks like after IFOedit:
VIDEO_TS
VIDEO_TS.BUP 6 KB
VIDEO_TS.IFO 6 KB
VTS_01_0.BUP 46 KB
VTS_01_0_IFO 46 KB
VTS_01_1.VOB 1,048,574 KB
VTS_01_2.VOB 1,048,574 KB
VTS_01_3.VOB 1,048,574 KB
VTS_01_4.VOB 373,906 KB
Here is DISK 2:
VIDEO_TS
VIDEO_TS.BUP 6 KB
VIDEO_TS.IFO 6 KB
VTS_01_0.BUP 30 KB
VTS_01_0_IFO 30 KB
VTS_01_1.VOB 1,048,574 KB
VTS_01_2.VOB 895,390 KB
Okay, obviously disk 1 is much larger than disk 2. I didn't split it exactly in the middle of the movie. I could redo it, but it works fine and I was in the middle of burning several movies. I don't have any problems on my Sony standalone player or any of my freinds' players.
As far as coverting to an .img file.., please!
How is the standalone going to decode that??
Only your PC can.
I hope this helps. If I get time, I'll finish my documentation on my entire process..., with pictures..., and get it to dRD for posting.
Good luck all !!!

viper058,
Your'e statement, and I quote,
"As far as coverting to an .img file.., please!

is not true. I'm fairly new to DVD ripping, and had problems burning using Nero, so now use DVD Factory, and burn as an image.
Iv'e done 2 so far (SHREK & Jurasic Park 3).
Both play on my PS2 & more importantly my Pioneer 444, with no problems.
To create the image after using Ifoedit, I used Imgtool. Very easy to use.
Hope that helps mikeyc.

Well, okay then!!
I stand corrected!!
From what I was told a standalone couldn't do it. Apparently it can. Gotta love new technology!!
Thanks for setting me straight Homerj.

Coaster, Please tell me how you ripped this movie. I have used SmartRipper and DVD Decrypter. No luck with either. First I had no sound, so I ripped just the movie and changed the AC3 6 to 0x80. That seemed to fix my sound problem but it was too big for 1 disc so I used IfoEdit to split it to two disks. Tested with IfoEdit and Power DVD before burning and each part seemed to play okay. Burned both parts as VIDEO_TS with Stomp but burned disks have no sound. I am totally frustrated with this movie. Have ripped and split several other movies just fine but this particular movie has me stumped. Please help!!!
