I have several ripped home movies i'd like to encode as AVI files. After looking at several guides, *I* understand how to do it BUT would like to pass it along to another site. Most of the people there can use DVD rippers with no problems, but are clueless as to working with XviD or AVI files. They aren't stupid, they can be taught.

IYOP, which guide would be the easiest for n00bs to understand, so they can encode their AVI files from their already ripped DVD/VOB files?

if you're a college student, do NOT settle with the RIAA http://tinyurl.com/37oz2z

I recommedn getting ConvertXtoDVD which, IMHO, makes burning AVIs to DVD so simple and quick. It also doesn't suffer from sync and conversion problems that apps like Nero have:

ConvertXtoDVD, FilmMachine and WinVI are free and easy to use.

AutoGK will convert them to AVI. And it is not hard to use.

ConvertXtoDVD? I think there's a discount code AfterDawn. I have no prob paying some $$ for an excellent program & helping this site.

yeah i'm just starting V.E. but have a friend (in school Aug 21) that can school me. Just need the right program. Want nothing to do with Adobe products beyond photoshop.
i'll try that program, thx axonrg

Got your PM -- I don't really know how to do any of that. I'm looking more to do converting to DivX. If I come across anything that would help you, I'll let you know!
