convert DTS Wav to a standard MP3?

I have some DTS audio CDs that I've been trying to convert to standard MP3s so I can use them in my winamp library.

Now, I've ripped the CDs so I have the wav files, and these wav files play fine in VLC (since it has a DTS decoder built-in), but if I try playing these wavs (or if I try to convert these wavs to mp3s), I just hear static in standard audio players.

I tried using foobar2000 to convert them using the special 5.1 to stereo plug-in, but that didn't work either.

Any ideas?

Try lame's mp3 thing codec

www.free-codecs.com
search for "lame"
be sure to download a gui

Nope, already tried that too.

Going from DTS (what is it, 6 channels?) to a stereo MP3 is not a simple "click to convert" type of conversion.

I dunno what DTS is
but did u try the windows media player ripping method
also if its an original cd and there was a protection try ripping them directly to mp3's on linux if u have it

I used audio crusher to rip the tracks (raw Wav gets all the channels, MP3 does not. Converting to MP3s or ripping to MP3s in the standard ways just gets me static.)

Yes, this is an origial DTS audio CD.

Basically DTS is a multi-channel audio format for surround sound systems.

MP3 files are stereo (two channel) audio files. Simply ripping to or converting to a stereo MP3 file from a multi-channel audio file DOES NOT WORK.
