Copying DVDs with Double-Layer DVDRs

I have a burner capable of burning dual-layer dvds, so wouldn't it make sense for me to backup my dvds onto these dual-layer discs, which would improve quality because no compression is needed? What program(s) is best for doing this? I tried to rip the dvd with DVD Decoder and then recode with Nero Recode, but this didn't seem to work, unless I did something wrong.

Hi cake11
Dual layer is still kinda expensive per disc - so I mainly use single layer except once in awhile I use I dual layer.
If you keep the compression low on a single layer the quality is usually good.
Recode is usually used to fit a disc to a single layer so you can probably skip that step for dual layer.

Best program for dual layer would be ripping and burning w/ DVD Decrypter. You can rip in iso mode than pick the mds file to burn in iso write mode.

Make sure your burner's firmware is up to date too.
Players can be more picky with dual layer media so if your burner can booktype you should also booktype the +r dl discs to dvd-rom w/ decrypter.
