i have a toshiba satellite and was wondering if i could use that to flash my xbox 360.Do i need to get a sata card and an external DVD+R DL drive ?

As far as i know, it's not doable on laptops yet, since there is no support for their sata cards yet.

You dont need a DVD drive to flash your xbox, you use the dvd rom inside your xbox, read this tutorial, but next time, search a bit please.Just to name a few:

as far as the dvd drive I was talking about using it to back up my games .my laptop has a regular dvdrw drive.can I use and external usb drive ?

There is a way to use WXripper using a swap trick and backing up your games from your pc, as far as i know it doesnt work on usb/external drives.

To back up your games you have to use your xbox drive tru a sata cable connected to your pc, using the xtreme800 mode, like it says on the links i sent you. Read em a bit.
