This is going to sound real stupid but why am I getting the message...

you need to update your console before you are able to play this game. Update yes or no.

I only get it on the new games like NCAA Football 07 and Dead Rising.

What is this update actually doing?

Please explain in more detail. What is it actually doing? Is it a detection of the xtreme firmware or updating just the console software???

It said the same thing when I tried to play NCAA 07 with a brand new 360 thats not hacked. So it's not a detection of firmware.

It's the spring dashboard update. Don't worry it has no affect on the firmware hack. You'll only see that message if you didn't already update via live. I did so I didn't get that message with those games. On a side note, I like how 3 of us have Pac-man and Street Fighter II in our last 5 played games right now.

The 2 best things I can think with the spring update are music played through the dash board doesn't stop when you switch games and downloads are handle much better. You can download while you play a game or watch a movie and have multiple downloads can be going at the same time.

well not at the same time, but it sets up a queued order for them, then it'll download in that order, but yeah, you don't have to stare at that damn progress bar whilst it's doing stuff anymore.

Yeah my bad. It's a queing thing. That's still better. You can que up multiple things, walk away or better yet play. It'll be done later without you have to think about it. I also don't think downloads stop on me like they used to. I used to have restart downloads a lot.
