Hello everyone, I want to get a new PC, as my current one will be used as a family PC. So I am choosing a new rig and need some help (because I don?t know enough about hardware :( ). I have selected most of the things you will see below based off of my own gut feeling and from good reviews on Newegg.com. If anyone would care to put some input/help on the things I hope to get, please do so.
Well I?ll start off by listing my current specs:
Compaq Presario AMD Sempron processor 3000+ 1.81 GHz
1 GB of ram
nVIDIA GeForce 6600 GT AGP Video Adapter
If there?s anything else I should list please tell me.
Referring to the motherboard, you can see it has 1 pci-e 16x, 1 pci-e 1x, and 2 pci slots. A review on that site said the video card I want takes up two slots; will the motherboard im getting support the card? This applies to both. Another thing, the Motherboard description says it supports CPU?s-? Athlon 64 FX/Athlon 64.? The CPU I want to get is a Athlon 64 X2; will this still be supported(read the description in the Motherboard link)?
Ok since that?s all done I would like to know if anyone has any better suggestions for the things I?m about to get. If you do, please provide a link if you can (preferably from http://www.newegg.com ).
* Also, can anyone who suggests I get a different piece of equipment, keep in mind I need this to be under $800; I really don?t want to go over that. Thanks for reading.
The proccesor you have is really good. The x2 3800 is a better overclocker though. If you plan to leave everything stock then stick with what you have there.
Your case is really good, but it has no power supply and that can run you up some more money. Normally I wouldn't recommend cases with power supply's, but the Anctec Sonata II' s power supply has proved exeptional.
Now, for the video card. I have the 7600gt and I'l tell you with those specs that it will be able to push it. Go for the exact one on you posted.
All that runs for 776.95 dollars. What you had would run you about 811 and you would still have to purchase a power supply. About another 80 dollars.
Keep in mind that yuo have to have a copy of Windows XP, RAM, and an optical drive in order for the hardware you bought to work. DON'T get cheap ram as it will make your system hurt. I hope that didn't interfere with your 800 dollar limit. If you don't have it, this would be the ram I would suggest.
Hey thanks for the reply(and great post)! I actually might just rework everything to what you suggested ;). And i do have a power supply and 1 gig of ram. The PS is a 550W, so i don't have to worry about that :D.
So when you say the total for your recommendations is 776.95 that includes the vid card and hd im getting, right?
And the one you told me to get is the first vid card and not the second i listed, right?
Hmmm well then it seems everything im getting is ready for order(finally!). Just one more question: I've been hearing that with most new stuff you need some equipment to cool it down.... what exactly would i need? And do you know of any apps that are like ATI Tool so i can control the temps? Also how exactly do i overclock? And what should i overclock(motherboard, vid card, etc...)?
Yah... thats more than one question lol. If you can answer any of these, it would help very much.
That case should keep your temps down, but the main thing you want to cool is your processor. This should get the job done. It's not as expensive as others but it works.
You can monitor yuor temps, which I assume is what you meant. Since you have an Asus board then you should use "Asus PC PROBE". It's on their website and might be included in the mobo's cd. if you are totally new to overclocking, then you should use something like AI Booster to overclock. That tool is best since you don't have to go into the BIOS and set things manually. If you want to overclock through your BIOS then yuo should do fsb overlcloking. I suggest you use Ai Booster first in order to get used to how your cmputer will respond.
I would say just the processor, you can up the ram too but you will need to loosen your timings. If you just do the processor you can have mroe stability
