Hi all, not posted before & bit of a newb so be gentle!! Thinking of getting a new dual core processor to help speed up encoding of things, mainly videos for my psp (running psp video 9), was just wondering if the performance is worth the outlay or if a new graphics card would help? Here's what i've got; Sunshine (GA-8I915PM Ver 1.1) motherboard Intel Pentium 4 model 530J 3.0 GHz 800 MHz fsb 1024 kB cache LGA775 socket ATI Radeon X300 (RV370 SE LP) Graphics Card (128 MB DDR + TV-Out) Core clock: 325 MHz 64-bit DDR memory interface. Any advice appreciated, cheers.

hi there, I would say go for a dual core processor. I would say go with a amd x2 3800 or an amd x2 4200 amd prices dropped quite a bit recently so you can pick one of those processors up fairly cheap. Also if you dont have alot of ram getting some more ram would help you out aswell. I have a x2 3800 myself and it encodes things pretty quickly. hope this helps you out a little bit.

Note that upon changing from AMD to Intel that you are going to have to buy a new motherboard. IS there a price range? How much ram do yuo have and what kind is it?

Hi, I've got 1024mb ram, just basic pny 184pin stuff. Don't really want to mess with changing motherboard so was still looking at intel processors, seen a INTEL BX80553930 P4 930 DUAL CORE PROCESSOR 2x3.00ghz for under £130 & was just wondering how much better it would be for video encoding, as if it's only minimal gain i'd rather stick with what i got. Know i won't get specifics as all systems differ, but a rough idea is better than i got at moment!! Thanks for replys so far..

I wouldn't suggest an upgrade since the performance is not going to increase drstically. I would suggest you buy a really good heatsink and overlclock that processor yuo have. Encoding wise, it should do as well as the dual core, most likely better.

Thanks, I was looking at the overclocking option but after getting into the bios set up I couldn't find an option to increase the mhz. Not being that experienced there's a good chance I missed something tho so I'll take a better look tonite. Thanks to all who replied.
