I'm assuming this is the one i'd need to order since i'm in the U.S. but i'm wondering is there any retailers in the U.S. that carry this, or am i going to have to order from lik-sang, reichi or ebay to get this? the wife wants this and i'm hoping someone here in the states carries it, but it does seem a little pricey ($199USD) can anyone give me some input about these units? like are they region locked, or region free or what, sorry but it's been a while since i've purchased something that takes cartridges... thanks.

Yeah, if you want any color besides white in the US, you'll have to import it from Japan. $199 is average for a brand new import DS Lite. Luckily, all of Nintendo's handhelds are region free, so you won't have to worry about compatibility with the DS Lite.

just the voltage compatability? i've noticed there are some of them listed at 220V and some at 110v (from what i've read it's UK/AU/JP that uses 220V and then US and CA that uses 110v? so i'm assuming there is no way these will be coming to the US?

Japan and the US have the same voltage standards, so you don't have to worry about that.
Also, if more colors ever did come out in the US, it'd probably take a while. Even then, there's no guarantee that the pink will ever make it here, seeing how the original DS only came in blue and gray.

if u wanna customize it, get certain arcrylic like paint and paint by hand maybe with ur wifes name or sumthin

not bumping but rather updating.
Noble Pink (aka Coral Pink) DS is now out in the US. $129.99
Onyx (Black) DS is now out in the US. $129.99
both of them came out today. there is no difference in the colors from the ones availabl imported, so all is good.
so for one time only, screw importing, it's here!
the fall 06 Nintendo catalagoe said it comes out on 9/17/06 but it's out a little earlier.

Yeah, I saw it in one of those little booklets that Nintendo gave out for free. I'm surprised they brought it over so quick.

I've always wanted the Red DS so much because it's my favourite colour, except at the time I got my DS they only had silver out then, I've been trying to find a shell replacement kit (red), besides on eBay.

if they have a black replacement shell for the DS Lite id probably get it.
