This is my first post here. I have read many of the posts and have learned enough to screw things up. Therefore I need a little help backing up a DVD.

I am have a NEC 3550A burner. My media is HP 16x DVD-R. My DVD player is Cyberhome 300S. The software I used was DVD Decrypter and AVS Disc Creator.

I rip the original using DVD Decrypter. I can then view the DVD from my hard drive with no problem. I then use AVS Disc Creator to burn the files onto the blank DVD-R. The process is completed with no problems. At least that is what the software states. I take the backup DVD to my DVD player to see if it works. I just get the message "loading" and then nothing else happens. The player supposedly can playback DVD+-R/RW.

The interesting part is that when I place the backup DVD in my NEC drive and the autorun begins the computer recognizes the media as a CD not a DVD. I can go in and double click on the VOB and the movie will play.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Welcome to AD.

First you need to use quality media, which HP is not. Try Verbatim, they are widely available and usually on sale for a pretty good price. Look for +R format and booktype them for increased compatability.

Second, use DVD Shrink for your compression and Imgburn to burn your ISO. I'm not familiar with the other software you are using, but this combo is made for each other.

You might also want to consider Ripit4Me, because DVD Decrypter is unable to deal with newer copy protection on it's own and needs the help from elsewhere.

Thanks for the reply.

I just downloaded Imgburn an will download DVD Shrink and Ripit4Me.

In this case I did not need to compress the data so it sounds from your post that the media may be my biggest problem.

You mentioned getting DVD+R and booktyping them. How is that done? Can it be done through Imgburn opr is this a firmware issue? I just flashed to the latest firware from the NEC site.

Thanks,

Booktyping can be done either through Imgburn via the book icon in the lower right hand corner or through modified firmware that is available for your drive. If no compression is needed all you need it DVD Decrypter in ISO read mode and then burn the MDS file with Imgburn.

As for the firmware, current modified version for your drive is 1.Y6 and can be found here along with the binflash utility:
