A while back I deleted Wordpad.exe (for some dumb reason) and soon found it was quite an inconvenience as Notepad doesn't format a lot of text files properly. I found another copy of Wordpad.exe using Google and replaced it in the proper directory (C:\Program Files\Windows NT\Accessories). It hasn't been the same as most of the time it doesn't open up any files associated with Wordpad, nor does the application start when I try to run it. Is there a better way to restore Wordpad than just replacing the Wordpad.exe like I did? If I can't fix this are there any other lightweight wordpad alternatives I can use. Any further help on this will be appreciated. Thank You

I can't be of much help, I thought it might be in the add/remove windows components dialogue, but it's not...I don't think.

I personally use jedit instead of wordpad or notepad, and while that's not an answer per-se, it's something.

http://www.jedit.org/

Sourceforge also shows these:
http://sourceforge.net/search/?type_of_search=soft&words=text+editor

and/or these:
http://sourceforge.net/search/?type_of_search=soft&words=word+pro...

AbiWord is fairly well recommended too, but it's closer to Word than to Wordpad.

Good luck!

My problem is back, upon replacing the wordpad.exe from another XP installation it seemed to work for the time being but today it won't work at all...sigh. I guess its time to dump wordpad until the next windows installation for me.

I have tried a couple of different copies (Win xp pro and xp home) now and it seems to work for a short while. I will try it with yours as well, if you can rename and upload it to one of the file-storage sites. I am looking around to see if there is a another way to restore rather than just replace the .exe in the install directory. Thanks
