I'm having a bit of a display issue with my Acer Aspire 5002WLMI. For the past couple months, part of the LCD screen has a rectangle with a red tint to it on the right hand side.
I tried bringing it to Circuit City since I have a 2 year warranty, but they told me they wouldn't touch it until Acer's one year warranty ends (ends on August 29). However, I can't use Acer's warranty because I never bothered registering it.
Anyone ever hear of something like this happening? It does it on a specific section of the LCD screen, so perhaps my LCD is going bad?
Is it an exact triangle or does it look like it is "busted". To test this turn it off, wait about 2-3 mins and look closely to see if you can still see the "triangle". If you can, it's screwed!
It's in that general area. Within that rectangle, I get lines of red tint. Never the entire area, but parts of it. About a tenth of it at a time really, no real shape to it other than being bound in that area.
I can only see it while a window is open, which is why I don't think it's my LCD screen.
I've been very careful with it...
I just noticed the cooling fan isn't even on right now. Aren't laptop cooling fans supposed to run constantly? Think maybe I'm just having a heat issue?
Wow, that is odd. I've seen a problem kind of simalar to this becasue of a virus but, I'm not 100% sure about that. And they seen the red lines all the time, not just when a window was open. You sure you are clean?
No, may laptop fan only runs when needed. Mostly of I have my Geforce on or I'm running above 75% CPU usage.
I'm pretty sure it's clean, since my antivirus updates daily and runs scans almost everytime I use it. Also, it occurs both in Windows XP and Ubuntu, so I don't think it's malware.
A section of the LCD is going bad. You probably have a broken ground somewhere in the panel. On August 30th, march on over to Circuit and have it repaired or replaced. Back up all your important info first, because those techs(term is used loosely) dont care about your data.
