I connected my HP laptop to a Panasonic HDTV using an s-video cable, and the picture comes up just fine. The problem is that it won't let me use a widescreen resolution for the tv display even though both the tv and laptop are widescreen.

Normally my HP is 1280x800 but when I run it to the tv it only lets me use 1080x768 or whatever, so the display is stretched unless I downgrade the tv setting from wide to standard. Does s-video not support the widescreen ratios I want?

both are widescreen but that does not mean svideo is wide screen, if you want true widescreen on your HDTV with out using a strech option then you will either need a video card that can do rgb out or a HDTV that can take dvi in.
