i was just wondering how to correctly make a back up copy of san andreas, ive extracted the files from the iso and modified a few of the files, but i do not know how to correctly rebuild the game so it is playable.

it should play fine a a DVD-5 all you need is good media... TY

You dont extract the files from the disc. Use DVDecrypter to make an iso, then burn the iso with DVDecrypter.

I am trying to mod my PS2 San Andreas, so I have to extract the files and rebuild...does anyone have any tips?

Yeah, dont go modding files in a PS2 game, unless you really know what you're doing, otherwise the game most likely won't work.
There are a lot of checks in PS2 games, eg; LBA checks. That check for correct file sizes etc..
