Ever since I first got Swap Magic, the CD version would never work. Here's what it would do:

1. It starts spinning a second after it's supposed to.
2. You know how the disk normally spins a little faster after the SCE screen? Well, it was already spinning that fast.
3. The SCE screen takes longer (because the laser's having a hard time reading it).
4. The PlayStation logo is half the time garbled up (like what it usually does when it gets a major, MAJOR disk read error.
5. The disk starts spinning OH MY GOD!!! fast, the whirring sound gets even louder and higher pitched, the fan starts blowing really really hard, and the PS2 starts shaking.
6. Nothing; I have shut the PS2 off IMMEDIATELY!!! after step 4/5 in fear of the PS2 exploding or making a fire or something. Sometimes I get as far as a split-second of the Swap Magic screen before jamming on the Reset button.

Swap Magic 3.3 didn't work, and nor does Coder 3.8. I have never gotten a Swap Magic CD version to work before EVER!!! I would take a video of all this, but I think I'm going to pass for obvious reasons.

==========================================

Anyways, is Swap Magic incompatible with V12 PS2s or something? (Yes, I have a V12. I checked all the guides millions and millions of times) I mean, The Sims works (it's a CD with a blue back), and I bet if I had another CD game, that would work too.

Yes, I HAVE tried taking the console apart and blowing away all the dust. I put Isoprypol rubbing alcohol (Wal-Greens brand :)) on the laser's eye using a Q-tip and dried it off with the other side of the Q-tip. I also got another Q-tip, put alcohol on that, and cleaned the disk-spinning circular thingy (whatever it's called) too, and dried that off.

==================================

It seems like whatever I do, I will never get Swap Magic CD Version to work with my PS2. What's the problem? How do I fix it?

umm haven't you posted this before? i think ive seen it before. but anyways when i first got my swap cd 3.6 it didn't work.. and i looked on alot of forums and post and other epople were having the same problem. i guess there was a bad batch of swap magic to where some cds/dvds work and some don't... whoever you bought it from, the website, ask them if they can send you another one to replace the one that doesn't work. if the new one works then it was the cd, if it doesn't then something is wrong with your ps2, and you should try it at a friends house.

.....Weird how both Swap Magics were CD versions, though. And I doubt my friend would let me use it on his PS2.

have you tried burning at a slower speed? i read something on the Swap Magic site that said sometimes burning at a slower speed can help with how the Playstation2 reads the discs... another thing was burning it to different brands of discs...

It's most likely a laser problem. Most laser's start having problems with the CD of Swap Magic before anything else.
There is a way to 'force' the PS2 to read it, if you have Codebreaker;
Load up Codebreaker, choose to 'Start Game', eject disc (if 'auto eject' is enabled then the PS2 will do it for you), put in SM CD version, wait a few seconds, then press 'X'. For some reason the CD of SM will ALWAYS boot up.

You only need a memory card if you want to save a game, or to store your required network configuration file on for online gaming.

DVD-RW doesn't work for PS2 games. As was said swap magic cds are funny like that. Kind of the luck of the draw. I have about 12 of them. Only 5 work on my slim PS2.

+R Probably. +RW No. Some older PS2s won't read +R, but if you can change the booktype on your burner to DVD-ROM that should take care of that.

16x discs causes laser reading issues.
LOL, DVD+/-RW and Memorex, gotta be like the quickest way to kill your PS2 if they ever work. DONT get Memorex and DONT get RW discs, if your ps2 is semi new get DVD+R 8x (burn at 4x) Verbatim or Taiyo Yuden, or maybe Sony.

You have the fat ps2 right?
in that case go for hdloader at sksapps.com it has A LOT better compatability than usb extreme.

You can either (at least for good compatability) go with a swapmagic and fliptop combo and just play backups through there but if you are adament on playing them through a hard drive then if you have a slim ps2 v12 or 13 (14 won't work) then you can get a modchip and another mod job called hdconnect (or hdcombo) to hook up an ide drive.
