PC freezing when PS2 disc inserted

i've never had problems backing up my ps2 games, but within the last month or 2 everytime i insert a ps2 disc into my pc drive it just locks up instantly. the drive will try to read the disc for like about 10 secs and then it freezes and i have to reboot. any insight as to why all of the sudden this is happening? any ways to fix this? thanx

Buy a new DVD-ROM drive!

Sounds like it could be failing. Have you tried updating the firmware? See if that fixes it 1st.

i really dont think thats the problem. i use it for many other things everyday and have no problems. just ps2 discs make my pc freeze.

my firmware is up to date. just tried another, same thing. only freezes for ps2 discs. this is really annoying
