Do you have it Downloaded? If not go to http://www.distrowatch.com and download it there. Once you have it downloaded use imgburn or Nero to burn the ISO to a disk. Then restart your PC(Make sure you have your first boot device as CD-ROM which can be changed by getting in the BIOS) Then you will boot up into the live CD.....

Enjoy!

presuming it's burnt correctly ie as an 'ISO' image then it should boot perfectly..then just reboot pc with the cd and enjoy :)

(it all runs from the cd so won't affect anything on your hard drive)

i get that problem on some PC's (where knoppix or other live CD's just sit there) - it's usually just something in the hardware it doesn't like. In knoppix there's an option (a few of them actually) that you can choose from at that "boot:" prompt when you first boot it up...

Usually when you get the boot prompt pressing <F1> will bring up a list of options for boot. Screen resolution, no hardware probing etc.
Check the forums and homesite for whatever distro it is you are using.

Knoppix has it's uses.. when you like to carry a half decent OS around in your pocket or on a flash drive.. It's very useful if you dress it up with ntfs mounting tools, that way you can usually recover crashed xp servers..but for serious use you really need a proper installed linux os rather than a live boot thingy.

I always carry a DSL disk about in my bag to boot the awkward machines at work, but that's another story.

Knoppix is great, if nothing else it's great to chuck the CD into a PC and then my girls can play Frozen Bubble on any PC that would normally only be Windows (bleurgh!), then reboot and da-da - Windows is back.

ps Jan, checked www.distrowatch.com last night, DSL has new Development Releases: Damn Small Linux is now 3.1 RC1, DSL-N 0.1 is RC4, snagged them last night..

Yah..updated both myself last week. I'm a member of the DSL forums testing the new distros when they come out. I'd like to get more involved with them but I don't really have the know how yet..or the time to do any serious dev work.

ps..that's really it this time..can't even post an honest view here any more.. not good.

hmm...this is my first dealings with linux and i find myself lost. i've downloaded the knoppix iso and burned it; when it boots, knoppix goes through the stages to what i assume will lead to a decent GUI like what i remember on a friend's older version. however, i get the error message that the KNOPPIX filesystem cannot be found and i'm dropped to a "very limited" shell. any ideas what i'm doing wrong? or did i have some false pretenses?

lol, looks like i stumbled right over the answer after posting here. for reference, using the cheatcode:

knoppix nodma

solved my problems upon boot. sweet,eh? now i'm happy.
