Currently I've got two computers... a media center laptop and a gaming PC.

I have a remote control and everything is set up for my media player laptop.

However... I have a couple problems...

1. First of all my harddrive is connected to my stationary with all my movies on it. I don't want to have to be fiddling cables around all the time, and the cable is very short, while my laptop is pretty far away. (I've thought of file sharing and that makes the movies quite slow and means both computers have to be on at the same time)

2. My TV is hooked up to my gaming computer... I have a cable strewn accross the room and behind a closet so it cant be seen... this means its very tight and can't be moved from my small PC. Im fine with placing my laptop next to my TV and changing the cables... but then the screen stays on and there's an empty desktop next to the movie which is really distracting.

These seem like pretty stupid problems... but it's pretty hard having the whole satisfying media setup in this way... any answers?

Go into control panel and change the power settings/advanced to do nothing when you close your lid. Then you'll be able to close your laptop, and still use the remote and watch movies on your tv without being distracted by the desktop screen.
