I own the original PAL version of Virtua Fighter 4 Evolution but I needed the Japanese version (to get around the censorship that always p*ssed me off).
I also needed it on DVD as my machine is having trouble reading CDs (I can only find it as a DVD rip), so I did all the stuff in the CD to DVD guide (stuff that I have done before so I know it works) and when the game starts up it asks you to select video mode (cycling your choice with the select button), whichever one I choose the game freezes and won't load past this point. I am using Swap Magic 3.6

Is there anything I can do to get this back onto DVD?

I also had the same trouble with another game, it is the Kalisto frontend that is causing the problems. I cannot get past this screen when my games are converted onto DVD.

Can you get rid of the frontend before writing the disc or is there some other way to get around this problem?

If I remember correctly, Kalisto's front end is contained inside the elf (executable) file, which they Hex edited to include it. You'd need to have some knowledge of being able to Hex edit a MIPS elf file to remove it.
