Playback VCDs on my PC

I've read many times that VCDs are designed to be played on DVD players, and they work as intended (on my dvd player) with any VCD I burn. But is there anyway I can play them on my PC? I have tried downloading half a dozen different "VCD players", I've tried downloading codec packs (which screwed up my FFDShow and TMPGEnc taking me hours to get that installed back and running again)..

I find it hard to believe that my $50 dvd with 2 year old firmware can play something that my $2500 machine with access to all the software/codecs/programs in the world cannot.

Most all of the VCDs in question are KVCDs. Thx in advance, -dok
