Sony dvd-r's fail and Office Depot Work!?

Hey guys, I have been trying to use my sony dvd-r's ver.2.1/1x-16x and it keeps giving the error "Unable to create disc structure", but when I try to use my fathers Office Depot DVD-R's 8X. It works fine... Whats the deal here? I've tried changing the speeds ect. Thanks in advance!

Is your drives firmware up to date?
Sounds like that may be the problem from the 8x Office Depot to the 16x Sonys.
What's the make and model of the drive?

Best to keep it to 1 thread (forum rules too)- I'll request this one closed.

Hey thanks for the responce and getting read of my double post, my bad. Ayway I was also thinking it might need a firmware update, but I wasn't sure how to do it. I have a Lite-On DVDRW SOHW 1633S also this little app I have says it currently has FW: BGS4. I found this site http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_firmware.php?download_id=1934 that looks kinda promising but I don't wanna d/l the wrong thing;) Thanks again!

Someone on another thread said I could crossflash my drive to genuine Lite-On firmware and get better support in the future, but I'm not too sure how to do that. Think it's a good idea?

Depends if the drive is still by chance under warranty than the warranty would be void w/ a crossflash.

Have you checked the pc's manufacturer's site to see if they have any updates? May or may not.

Since most media now a days is 16x & 8x is harder to find depending on the area you are in - might not be a bad idea to cross flash if the pc manufacturer has no update & the drive is out of warranty.
Here's a guide to crossflash and which models it will do (yours is listed).
You should just be able to do method 2 since codeguys already has a patched crossflash version of the BSOY. Easy way

Those Sony's blow those Office Depots away - good you got them burning.

Yes I sure did :) I was wondering why the BETTER cd's (Sony) wouldn't work, but the crap ones worked. They only thing I notice I have to do it uncheck burn to disc at once (which sux) and I set the speed to 4X to be safe.

16x media is newer so your drive probably just needed the media codes updated by the flash to recognize and use the correct write strategy.

Try 8x on those Sony's & drive - 8x is the lowest I burn even w/ 8x media.
