I'm never had problems with Nero till now. I burn the DVD, it's almost done, I get a message : Burn process failed! An error log file was created that can be very helpful in diagnosing problems. Would you like to save it?
Can someone please let me know where I can look at this problem?
The dvd plays but it skips now and then. I use Nero 7, the one in stores now.
Can someone please help me, thanks.

Hi Vanessa5
Did you save the log? You can post it and we can take a look. Just be sure to edit out the serial # - begins w/ 1A, 1C or 5C.

Or you can look for the last one here:
program files>nero>nero 7>core>nerohistory.

When you say the dvd skips are we talking the failed burned dvd?

Oh and remove the email addy from your sig - who needs more spam.

Hi Vanessa5
Here's some suggestions:
Quote:
CdRomPeripheral : ASUS CD-S400/A atapi Port 1 ID 1 DMA: Off
Probably not playing into the burn failure - but best to have all drives in DMA mode. Here's a quide:
http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/260038
Quote:
Recorder: <DVDRW IDE1008> Version: 0658
A bit behind on the burners firmware. Update to the lastest one - 0060.

Quote:
Disc Manufacturer ID: CMC MAG,
Here's your biggest problem the media you are using - pretty bad. Probably also why you have skipping too.
Better to use would be Verbatim or made in Japan Fuji, Sony or Maxell.
Quote:
Burn process failed at 8x
For these discs take the burn speed down to 4x.

You're also missing the last part of the log. It would look something like this:
Existing drivers:
File 'Drivers\PXHELP20.SYS': Ver=2.03.27a, size=20576 bytes, created 1/26/2005 5:03:00 AM (Prassi/Veritas driver for win 2K)

well Vanessa looks like you have 2 problems.1st you need to upgrade your Nero to the best version so far 7.0.8.2 and second you need better media.CMC MAG is a big no no here at Afterdawn.

Visit Nero.COM and upgrade your Nero first then work on getting some Verb's or Sony's (MIJ) only. MIJ=made in japan

Those 2 brands you can't go wrong with.Hope that helps.

Thanks, for the help so far. It's not the first problem that you suggested. The next 1 on the list I updated and here is the last part that was missing:

Existing drivers:
File 'Drivers\PXHELP20.SYS': Ver=2.02.38a, size=16288 bytes, created 4/18/2002 2:02:00 AM (Prassi/Veritas driver for win 2K)

CMC Mag is the manufacturers of your Discs, they are of a poor quality, probably branded as memorex....as stated try good media (discs) such as Verbatim or Sony (made in japan)

It is a plague, pestilence, epidemic, curse, scourge, bane, and affliction, placed upon the DVD burning population. They produce inferior media and dont seem to care as long as they get their money from you.
Changing media, or blank discs, as suggested will make a big difference.

CMC MAG is to DVD burning what a sucking chest wound is to good health. Avoid both at all costs.
Nero revisions can be found here, pick a good one lick the Binkster suggested.
http://www.filehippo.com/download_nero_7_premium/?845
direct link to it, I don't think that Nero keeps prior version available, like sweeping dirt under the rug, they hide their prior screw ups deep within the servers of Nero Hell.
CMC MAGs make good shiney things in your garden to scare away birds with, also give them to neighbor hood kids to make UFO's out of,or if you really must burn them, I suggest charcoal lighter fluid and dressing up like a hollywood cannibal and chanting the words to "Grease" backwards. Just don't blame me when they come and lock you up. See, CMC MAGs have no real use in modern civilization.

@Vanessa5

Even though your drive fully reognizes the media you are using I would still update the firmware to the latest version -0060.
Just click on the link above and then click on 0060. This will download the firmware file to run. You can just save it to your desktop.

Before running it - close open programs, have no blanks in the drive and keep the power on.
Double click on the download to open. Make sure your drive 'DVDRW IDE1008' is picked under target drive. Click 'upgrade'. Takes less than 1 minute. Reboot and you should be set.

Burn process failed at 8x
Take the burn speed down to 4x. 8x is the max this drive does for +R.
See how that goes.

I already updated as soon as you responded, unless I did it wrong. Is there a way that you can tell?

yep from the log today in this line:
Recorder: <DVDRW IDE1008> Version: 0658
Still showing the 0658 version - not the 0060 version.

Have you rebooted the pc since updating the firmware?

I would recommend 7.0.8.2, it seems to offer the least amount of problems for everyone. You can get the download here:

I tried to set up the 7.0.8.2. and this is what I get:
The currently installed version of Nero 7 is incompatible with this installer. It must be uninstalled using the control panel before reinstalling with current version.

Can someone explain to me what I need to do. Thanks.

Sorry, forgot to mention that you first must uninstall your current version of Nero, use the Nero 7 Cleantool, should take care of the uninstall for you, download it from here:

http://ww2.nero.com/nero7/enu/Nero7_CleanTool.html

After the uninstall completes, restart your computer, then install 7.0.8.2 after the restart completes.
