I can do this, but I mostly want to record sporting events, that are sometimes 3-4 hours in length. I cannot get files of this size to fit onto one 4.7 gb disc. How can I compress these files? Thanks in advance for your help.

What is your method of getting the files onto your computer and what file extension (.wmf or .mov etc.) is it?

The file extension is actually .tivo

It is exclusive to TiVo. I can convert already...wma, .mpg, .mov, etc. I just need to compress.

TiVo comes with software that allows you to network the unit to your PC and trasfer the files.

Do you have Nero program on your computer? NeroVision Express would probably do it all in one step. If not, you may have to use this to convert it to a traditional DVD file on your computer

then run it through a program like DVDShrink.

I think that may work. I do not have Tivo so I may be adding an extra step, maybe your converter will change it to a "friendly file to shrink like a Video_TS or .ISO file, i dont know. But even with the extra step you should be able to do it.

No problems. Even though I never specifically done a tivo file, the process should be the same as most converter programs. Also check the software tab here at afterdawn you'll find other conversion programs you can use for sure!
If you need help with the shrink part of things look here for great guides

Double posting--- reason I found this thread by searching AD

And I dont think you'll want to use that WinAVI program, am told the trial version leaves a watermark of the logo. But you hopefully understand what type of program you need to do a conversion.
