Help with Cyberhome DVD recorder and Direct TV...

Hello, I'm new to this whole dvd recording deal. I just purchased a cyberhome DVR 1600 and finally hooked it up to my direct tv box. The problem I seem to be having is that I cannot schedule the player to record something at a certain time. The schedule will stay on, but the player will not record. Does the TV have to be on that specific channel for it to be recorded?? Any help and/or tips would be greatly appreciated.

The satellite reciever must be set (and Power On) for the program that is to be recorded
The 1600 will most likely not record the program if the program is CP (Copy Protected).
