tmpgenc 2.5 is driving me nuts! Only black screen!

OK, I have tried to use TMPGEnc plus 2.5 to encode an .avi and burn to dvd. I keep getting a black screen, but audio. I thought maybe my trial was over so I downloaded in anew and the same thing is happening. However, when I used it with the video tools video server plug in, it worked just fine! (but I had the video tools logo, hence no good) This to me has no explanation.
I then downloaded the trial TMPGEnc express, used what I believe to be the same settings and it worked fine as well (again, logo)!

does anyone else have this problem with TMPGEnc plus 2.5? I author with TMPGEnc dvd author. I also noticed that when I use the plus 2.5, I get two seperate streams, the video labeled as real one.
