I have produced a stills movie with Windows Movie Maker and saved as movie AVI PAL. I then downloaded TMPGEnc Plus and used wizard defaults to produce a file with M2V file extension. Is this correct ??

I want to make a DVD of this movie and play on home DVD players.

I have DVD Shrink as well but does not seem to recognise the file.

I am very much a newbie.! How do I get this right?

Mike

There are a few changes you should make. See this guide: http://dvd-hq.info/Compression.html As the guide says, TMPGEnc is terrible at audio, use VirtualDub to create a wav and enter that in TMPGEnc as the audio. It's free:http://www.videohelp.com/virtualdubaudio.htm

mistycat, thanks for the tip. I have had problems with TMPGEnc plus 2.5. I have no idea what to do, I keep getting a black screen! I'll try that for the audio though. Famreeks, keep us posted, I'd like to see if you have the same problem (hope not)

Here's a link that lists some problems and fixes for TMPGEnc. I have'nt read it all but have a look there:http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/40101 Edit: don't know what the deal is with links. Yesterday they highlighted, today they don't. It's the right one, though, just copy it.

Cheers Mistycat.

I also need to know apart from the audio bit(thanks for that) what do I do next after creating this .M2V file. Is there another part to processing before being able to burn to a DVD? as the file currently is not recognised by my PC (Win XP) .

This is kind of out of my element but I believe m2v is simply the encoded video with no audio (elementary stream) which some authoring programs mux together when the wav is added and while authoring. If you convert as ES (video and audio), you won't need this step and will end with an mpg containing both. Or mux them back together before authoring: (main page)File>MPEG tools>simple multiplex. Use MPEG 2 Programs and that should give you an mpg to author but again, this is only my guess. I've never attempted this and only ever created mpg.
