I have about 1000 songs on my ipod already, and I recently had to fix my computer because of a virus which deleted all my songs and itune records. I just installed itunes again, I know there is a way to plug in my ipod to upload new songs, without erasing my old ones I have on my ipod. Does anyone know how to do this?

If your iPod is going to automatically update, then hold down shift when you plug your iPod in and change the setting to manually manage. There is also a list of other ways to manually manage your music here:
