Which games are you wanting to try? I have been able to play many old games using VDMSound or a Glide Wrapper such as Open Glide or psVoodoo.

Yea, MW2:Mercenaries is a tough one to run in Windows mode, though the DOS version works ok if you use VDMSound and nolfb.com. I hadn't tried it with VMWare, I know that supports DirectX, but not sure if it is 100%. I keep an old Pentium and 486 around for playing older games, though all but a few I have managed to get working in XP. Silver was an old console style RPG for 95 that I never managed to get working in XP.

Just read about DOSBox performance with a Conroe System, Mechwarrior 2 was running ok at 1024x768 VESA mode with a E6600 Core 2 Duo

@ ZippyDiSM

download a freeware emulator called QEMU, use a 9x install cd and install it virtually in there, boot it up and then use it :D since its 9x it shouldnt run too slowly.

you see that is the only problem with running virtual machines, there is usually a lossin severe performace accompanied.
