Avi 2 DVD sound problems.

I have a friend that lives in the UK and sends me AVI videos all the time in PAL and 44hz sound sampling. Most movies I have converted to NTSC DVD's with cucusoft convertor pro 7.07 and have had absolutely no problems with playback on my mono t.v. But recently I have two that I have converted to NTSC dvd but they don't have sound on my mono tv. On a stereo tv they play fine but just not on my mono tv. I just purchased winavi and I am still having this issue.

I have used media coder to transcode the audio into other formats at varying bit rates and still no go. Can so one please help me out?
