today i had to reinstall windows xp, as yesterday i recieved a message saying that since windows was last activated, my hardware had severly changed. but all i did was install a few programs, like Nero etc.. i decided to reinstall as my internet wasnt right, somehow sites i had accessed in the past kept coming up unable to load page. anyway, i activated windows, installed motherboard & graphics card drivers & the telewest internet cd. everything seemed fine, the pages i couldnt access were fine & in system, my cpu was showing as 2.0ghz.. i continued to install my programs(nero7, alcohol 52%, magiciso, poweriso, & a lot more) & also a couple of games(guild wars & auto assault( full games free with pcformat magazine & a 14 day subscription that have to be activated this weekend. anyway, the games installed & when i tried to insert the serial numbers & create a new account, it said it was unable to connect to the servers.. so i tried to access pages that were not loading last time but did just earlier. & SURPRISE, they wouldnt load anymore. i then installed ship simulator 2006 & that said my processor didnt meet the minimum requirements. i checked system again & it showed my cpu as 1.0ghz..? is there a certain thing you have to do to set up an internet connection with telewest broadband? why is my processor showing as 1.0ghz, when its a 2.0ghz cpu? i would really appreciate some help here as i have had to reinstall windows a few times because of this & i want to be able to play my games, but cant if its showing as 1.0ghz.. thanks P.S i fitted 2gb corsair twinx xms matching pair ram & an antec vcool case cooler that sits alongside my graphics card card before i reinstalled windows.. my specs: amd athlon 64 3000+ 2.0ghz cpu, asrock k8upgrade vm800 socket 754 mobo, 2gb corsair ddr400 pc3200 twinx xms matching pair ram, nvidia geforce 6600 256mb agp gpu, 250gb samsung sp2504c sata hdd, 1x speeze hard drive cooler with 2 fans, 1x antec vcool case cooler, 1x nec cd/dvd drive, 1x toshiba cd/dvd rewriter... thanks for any help or advice anyone has..
Firstly, I'd recommend the obvious and reinstall that telewest CD again, making sure it's the most recent thing you've installed. The CPU is running slowly due to Cool and Quiet, which drops the CPU down to 1Ghz when you're not doing much to run cool and efficiently. Disable cool and quiet, and you should be able to install your game.
