please note that when i attempt to burn brandnew sony blank cds or dvds i get a error message that no media is found when there is blank media in drive thank you in advance

prehaps i should clarify i have problems with my burner anytime i put any type of medium in it skips and makes clicking sounds says there is no medium in the drive it was working until i took it to be cleaned what should i do

what model is your burner, maybe it just needs the firmware updating

If you had taken it some place to get it cleaned and now it doesn't work, I would take it back and demand credit towards a new drive!

a-ha but not this particular time as i'd just got back from a short outing to the Marina's pub. Just checking thru my emails and just starting to watch An American Haunting, failrly quiet on Afterdawn tonight. :)
@kimmie36 - forgot to mention, i teleported this thread here from the normal Linux forum, though it does sound like the drive needs to go back to 'the cleaners' :)

read the replies to my post i did not take the drive to be cleaned i did however take my notebook to a friend who removed a virus from it the dvd burner is a slimtype sosw-852s so maybe it does need new firmware

creaky this is the error message i got when trying to mount /dev/hdc
block device /dev/hdc is write proteceted mounting read only
wrong fs type, bad option
bad superblock on /dev/hdc missing codepage or other please do not ask me to tell you the type of liteon i have could not get that to work

can you paste /etc/fstab here.. let's see what your mount options are for your devices

i think i found the solution to my problem after looking for days i discoved that i have no hdprm.conf file in etc if someone can tell me in layman terms exactly what to do to get this file back in place and how to turn on dma will be you best friend forever
