what model is your burner, maybe it just needs the firmware updating

If you had taken it some place to get it cleaned and now it doesn't work, I would take it back and demand credit towards a new drive!

a-ha but not this particular time as i'd just got back from a short outing to the Marina's pub. Just checking thru my emails and just starting to watch An American Haunting, failrly quiet on Afterdawn tonight. :)

@kimmie36 - forgot to mention, i teleported this thread here from the normal Linux forum, though it does sound like the drive needs to go back to 'the cleaners' :)

a-ha...

ok, it depends on exactly which 'flavour' of LiteOn 852S you have. Have pasted this from here - http://codeguys.rpc1.org/firmwares.html#SOSW-852S -

Quote:
LiteOn SOSW-852S
? P9S2 - stock (2004/06/24) (no +R DL)
? PS01 - stock (2004/06/28)
? PSF2 - stock (2004/06/28) (no +R DL)
? PRS7 - stock (2004/07/14) (no +R DL)
? PCS3 - stock (2004/08/13)
? PSX1 - stock (2004/09/21)
? PST3 - stock (2004/10/15)
? PRS9 - stock (2004/10/19)
? 6S07 - stock (2004/10/21) (6x max.)
? P3S4 - stock (2004/11/22)
? PSX3 - stock (2004/12/30)
? PS08 - stock (2005/04/08)

Sony DW-D56A (rebadged LiteOn SOSW-852S)
? PYS1 - stock (2004/09/24)
? PDS3/PDS6/PDS7 - stock (2005/07/01) (Dell OEM)
? PFS1/PFS2/PFS3 - stock (2005/05/27) (Vaio OEM) (newer than PDS7)
- if you have Nero, run info-tool to verify the current firmware level then we can pinpoint which 'flavour' drive you have and can then see from the list above which firmware to recommend. If you don't use Nero you can download (free) just the info-tool program from here - http://www.cdspeed2000.com/files/NeroInfoTool_403.zip
