does anybody have any ideas regarding disc read error on the ps2. It will play cds and it will also play the blue ps2 game (star wars lego) any ideas the kids have me driven mad . cheers pq

Sounds like your laser is starting to, or has failed on the DVD side.
Several things might help;
First of all, try cleaning the lens with a cotton bud & rubbing alcohol, if that doesn't work, then you may need to adjust either the drive tilt cog (large white cog at rear of drive unit), or the laser adjust screw (very small screw on the laser housing, on left of the lens itself) by small amounts until the DVDs start reading again.
There's also a possibility you'd have to adjust the DVD POTS located under the laser housing itself, but they would need to be checked for correct output with an Altometer (is that the right thing?) first.
Failing that, a new laser is probably in order. Although, since they cost 2/3 of the price of a pre-owned, refurbished PS2 (just for the laser & not including shipping and/or fitting costs), you'd be better off buying pre-owned PS2.

Hey,

@pqbud i live in the uk

and if you do too you will no doubt have heard of the game shop CHIPS

my ps2's drive and laser had both broken, i took my ps2 to chips and they fitted a new drive and replaced the laser in a week and it cost me £50.

since then i have not had one problem with my ps2, so if you dont mind spending the cash to your ps2 to a place like chips or somewhere offering ps2 repairs.
