Hi there,

I've got two v3 PS2 and believe i have a laser problem on one of my PS2's. Its the first one with the problem, its starting to load slower than the first, sometimes it even hangs on the loading points so long it gets stuck! I believe the second PS2 is fine, its barely been used with backups and with originals at all to be honest, comparing the loading speed from the first to the second PS2 the first is very slow, at first i thought it was the disc but i'm sure otherwise now. On free roaming games (mercenaires, GTA etc) i end up crashing into building and trees or whatever because they haven't loaded yet, doesn't happen as much on the second PS2.

Anyway on the first PS2 about a year ago it had all but stopped working, it wouldn't load games at all and would crash on originals. I stopped using it for about 5~ months and then it seemed to be working fine and since i've been playing loads of backups on it since. Now the troubles are starting again.

I've but all that rubbish above so you can decide for yourself if you think its the laser, but i think it is.

So put it simple: I need to clean the laser! Is there a easy way to do this without taking it apart (much) and how to clean it?

The most efficient way to clean the laser is to take off the case and unscrew the top of the disk drive. This will expose the laser eye. Using a Q-Tip and some rubbing alchohol, rub the eye gently in circular motions to rid the eye of debris. Then use the dry side of the Q-Tip to clean off any residual alchohol. Put the top back onto the drive and screw the case back together and give her a try.

I'll give it a go in the morning, will ethanol do? I don't have any rubbing alchol and to be honest i don't think you can buy it in the UK, but you can't buy ethanol to be honest lol (don't even ask how i got the ethanol lol)
