Hello,

I really want to give my PC a makeover and make it run faster and add more to it, so theres a few things I've thought about, but I would want to know if increasing the RAM speeds up the PC, at the moment it is a Pentium III with three 128mb ram cards in it and runs Win XP Pro. Also there is a firewire card on the back which I haven't used once in the six years with it so how can I go about removing this and replace it with a USB 2 card. And how do you tell which size fan for the case do you get as I have seen 80mm and 120mm.
A lot of questions I know but the PC is getting old and sluggish so I need to upgrade it quickly.

Increasing the RAM speed could be interpreted in two ways - putting in faster RAM, or making the existing RAM run faster. If you do the former, assuming it's compatible, it'll make the PC run slightly faster. If you do the latter, you're overclocking the system, which makes it run quite a lot faster, within reason, as long as the RAM, Motherboard and power suppply are of good quality and you have an adequate CPU cooler. You can easily remove a firewire card, unscrew it from the case and pull it out of the PCI slot. Reverse the process to install a USB2.0 card. As for which size fan you need depends on what case you have. I would guess with a system that old you'd want 80mm, but I can't be certain, it could be 60 or 92. If there's a fan in there already itshould state the size on it. If not, measure the width of the slot where one would fit.
