I got DVD Rebuilder Pro. I downloaded the trial version of CCE Basic. During setup of DVD RB, it recognized CCE Basic trial version was installed during the installation wizard.

In mode section, CCE is gray. There is a check mark next to the next entry...QuEnc. I am unable to check CCE. It is light gray. I have to be missing something. This would not be because this is a trial version of CCE. I read something about another file, but the installation wizard made it sound like it would insert it if the version of CCE supported it.

Also, I would rather just purchase CCE Basic without the trial. Is that possible? I did not see that on the download screen.

CCE is one of the fastest encoders on the market, in addition to which it provides the best quality, too -- you wouldn't expect any less from a software with a price tag of $2,000.00.

This is the trial version. It is limited in the following ways:
1. A logo will be inserted in the encoded stream.
2. Encoder control list cannot be saved or loaded.
3. Framewise setting is not available for Quality setting.

You should be able to select it, (unless your trial
has run out.)

Maybe a re-install would fix the issue?

Once I realized how much it costs,
I went back to using QuEnc for encoding.

@Jizmak

Thanks for the response.

So you can't really buy the basic version of CCE for under $100? Reading so many of the posts, I got the impression that you could. People even referenced purchase prices under $100 like $58 or $60. The number of posts on this software would lead you to believe that there are many many many many people using CCE. Did they all buy the sp version for $2,000? It must be nice to be able to afford that. I feel just like you do on that subject.

If that is the case, like you, I will use QuEnc that came with DVD RB Pro. Does it work faster with Pro? It took 4 hours to backup my copy of The Producers the other night. I was using the Freeware copy of DVD RB on that project.

Thanks for Your input.

The basic version of CCE is 60.00, or at least that is what I paid for mine. It will do everything the high priced one will do except you are limited to two passes. But that is enough anything more than three is a waste. I have CCE SP 2.67 and SP 2.7 and the basic measures up the same as the high priced.

You are welcome, hope you enjoy it. I bought this one and the output is good and CCE is the fastest of the encoders although it may still take you a couple hours depending on the compression and whether you do movie only. Hope you are using RB Pro it has more bells and whistles than the Free version, although the free works just as good.

I just purchased RB Pro Yesterday. I had some issues at the beginning, but worked most of them out thanks to a great guide at:
http://www.doom9.org/mpg/dvdrb.htm. What prompted my original post was when I downloaded CCE Basic Trial and RB Pro told me it was not functional, even after I had put in all the special files as per the guide. RB Pro scanned the files and I got that message when I wanted to start the compression. It had the movie all loaded. I could see it when I highlighted the largest file, but I do not know how to edit. Can you recommend another guide that will enlighten me in this regard? That way I don't have to ask you too many questions.

Thanks,

Here is an excellent guide on the program, it will show you all the setting and what is meant by them. It is the freeware version but can be applied to the Pro.

http://forum.digital-digest.com/showthread.php?t=55302

Also here is a Quickstart Guide for the Pro showing the settings. It is all in getting your paths correct. Once that is done the program is easy to use.

Thanks so much. Everthing worked fine after purchasing and installing CCE Basic. I backed up a movie of course. Did it in VIDEO_TS format. I read the guide from Doom that I mentioned in a previous post, and He said these should be done as an ISO. He said that just loading a VIDEO_TS file to Shrink or Nero ends up being encoded and it compromises the quality.

I would agree since it took 8 minutes of encoding before I could burn (I have it set on slow encoding for quality...should I change?).

I like my movies done at 4300 so I don't get too close to the edge of the disk. I have not yet learned how to do that with RB Pro, but I am sure it is in one of the guides you recommended.

Do you agree with doing an ISO instead of VIDEO_TS?

Thanks,

I encode mine to VTS files and find there is really no difference. Encoding to an iso just lets you burn with Decrypter, but as other burning programs burn VTS files it is just easier. Iso is just a container for all the files, it might have been a better bet with older players but with the new ones VTS works just fine. It is all in personal preferences. You need to rip first with a ripper such as DVDFab Decrypter or DVDDecrypter and then run RB, there is no need for Shrink. Using Shrink alters your file, just use RB. RB outputs to the correct size and gives enough space so it is not at the edge. Never had a problem with output size, better to not change the default settings on this.

Is there a way to autoburn with RB Pro. If I open Nero and use Copy Complete Video, it encodes it. Should I not do the slow encoding for quality, since it is already "Primo", and go back to default setting of DVD 5 for burning. I just don't want to foul up the good work that RB Pro and CCE have done.

Thanks,

@NytBurnr

You do not have to recode the DVD in Nero to burn the VIDEO_TS files that DVD-RB outputs.

Yes it is easier to have DVD-RB ouput an ISO file then burn it as an image with Nero or DVD Decrypter.

But for future refrence for you. Below is a guide on how to burn the files that DVD-RB outputs in Video_TS.

Start off by starting Nero Burrning Rom then follow the images below.

You also asked if you can set up DVD-RB to burn the files with Nero automaticly. As far as I know you can not use Nero but you can use IMGBurn or use DVD Decrypter to burn the file after DVD-RB is done automaticly. You choose this option by clicking on (MODE) then select (Output to ISO image file) Now you will have to tick the box that says (automaticly burn(INGBurn/DVD Decrypter)

I have never used that part of Nero, but will be happy to. Looking at the guide you provided, I can see that there is no further encoding to what RB Pro has already done. I wanted to make sure I was not doing any further encoding after RB Pro was finished.

Thanks for you input.

If you use the guide above there will be no more encoding. But as stated above it is easier to just output the file to an ISO. That way it is more simple to burn an ISO rather then do all the steps above when you output a VIDEO_TS folder.

I will uasly use the above option in Nero when I convert AVI files to DVD. I have Nero convert them to a VIDEO_TS folder that way I can check and make sure the DVD has been converted correctly.

But when it comes to backing up my DVD's I have DVD-RB output an ISO file and just burn the ISO with IMGBurn. But you can also use Nero to butn the ISO by choosing to burn an image file.

So if you dont want to add more programs (IMGBurn/DVDDecrypter) to your computer you can still use Nero to burn the ISO after DVD-RB backs up your DVD and outputs it into an ISO file.

I have DVD Decrypter/Img Burn on my computer, so I will try both ways. Right now I have a movie with VIDEO_TS, so I will try the first solution. After that, I will use the ISO.

Thanks again for all of your info.

If you have the file in VTS you can change it with ImgBurn to iso and then burn. Just choose build an iso in ImgBurn and then you can burn it with this program. This guide shows DL but you can do it for your file with no problem.

It worked great...but you knew it would. Now to digest the guides you recommended. I used to think this was fun with Shrink and DVD FabDecrypter, but this is so much better. I have used RipIt4Me and had no problems.

@larrylje

Thanks Very Much for all of Your input as well.

The guides are great. Do you use that Shrink Menu program? I have been backing up the "Entire" DVD because with Shrink or Nero, if you re-authored in any way, the menu would not work anymore. It would be made into a clip, but would not work. If I shrink the menu and remove the previews, etc., will the Menu still work? Some of the menus are quite sizeable and that added space would certainly add to the quality of the actual movie.

Thanks,

If you use RB Pro you have the option of keeping the menu with the movie. Or if you use RipIt4Me you can do movie + menu. Usually I back up movie only or if I really want the whole movie I use a Dual Layer disk. Cannot comment on the Menu Shrink, I have not used it, but many have used it with great success

I thought about using the quality reduction on the "Extras". I don't suppose you ever tried that, since You like the "Movie Only" most of the time. I think I will try that though. I am really not too concerned about the quality of the Menu and Extras. Like You, I am looking to get the best possible quality "Movie" I can without going to the expense of dual layer recording.

I "Personally" like "Movie Only", but other people in the family want the menu and extras.

If you use dual layer, do you get Verbatim? I have Benq 1655 burner.

Thanks,

Yes I use Verbatim, have two Plextor 716A burners and they come out great. That BenQ is a good drive/burner and should have no probem with Verbatim. You can use the steal space from the extras in RB, the movie will still come out looking good.

I am going to try that before I start to shrink the menus. Thanks for all of your help. I will be in this Forum regularly I am sure. Please watch for my posts.
