I'm trying to play a DVD (original store-bought) on my computer. I'm writing an essay on it so it'd be more convenient being able to watch and analyse at the same time.
However when I put the disc in, nothing shows up. The drive doesn't read the disc. When I click on it in Explorer, there are no files listed, and I can't open it using DivX player or Win Media Player either.
I'm sure I have a DVD drive, because I can play other DVDs on my computer. I've checked and my location is set to 0 - which makes it region-free, I should think.
Any ideas how I could get it to play on my computer? It's a HP Compaq Presario with a Toshiba DVD-ROM. The essay is due in one weeks' time...

Am kind of annoyed. Now I've to run my laptop on batteries in the living room so I can watch and write... and have 5 people peering over my shoulder while I do that...
I'm currently facing the same problem with a different set of circumstances. I trying to convert home videos on dvd I shot myself and recorded using a ZRY-316 DVD/VCR and DVD+R disks, to AVI format on my desktop. I put the DVD in the drive, a Micro Advantage 16DDVDRW-A13, and nothing happens. There are no folders at all. I can get the DVD's to play in the origional device I recorded them in, but I can't get them to open on my desktop computer. When I try to select the drive in WinXMedia, I get the "No IFO file found in" error. This can't be some sort of copy write problem because these are home videos I made myself.
Edit: I solved my problem. I simply forgot to finalize the disks after I burned them.
