VLC player, movies blocky when fastforwarding

When I watch movies, there is a problem when i fast forward or rewind. When i fast forward or rewind to a part it tends to stay on the same image, but I hear the sounds of the new sequence, and when i wait a little longer the new video sequence is there with blocks of the old sequence still on it and sometimes they are mashed together. Any help please.
