I just purchased a BenQ1655 as a backup burner. Its current firmware is BCHB and burns DLs at 2.4x. Regular DVDs are burned at 8x. No real problem there because I don't max out my burn speeds. It's hooked up to an external case and I use it via USB 2.0. Now, the latest firmware available is BCIB. Would there be any real advantage to flashing this drive? Thanks much!

The BCIB is pretty new and untested/proven, I still use BCHB in mine and it's fine. I'd give it a couple weeks or more before flashing, especially if you aren't having problems with your current setup. As for burning at max speed via a USB connection, I wouldn't do it. Stick with 8X.
