I will state this & can assure you most anyone here will agree with me on it: Verbatim is the only Made in Taiwan DVD Media that is High Quality at this time About all you'll find at this time are the 16x variety. They code as MCC004.(DVD+R) They are Sweet!
The ony DVD Media that is better is Made in Japan: Taiyo Yuden!

Use The Best Media for The Best Burns! TYs, Verbs,(Made in Taiwan) Sony MIJs (YUDEN000 T02), Sony Made in Taiwan DVD+R 16x, Maxell MIJ, RITEK G05.

Verbatims are the best media to come from Taiwan. They code out as MCC (Mitsubishi Chemical Corp). Most of the other media from Taiwan codes out as CMC Mag. They are the ones that most consider to be crap, because so many people have problems with them.

Verbatim are considered by most, to be #2. Taiyo Yuden are considered to be #1. Can't go wrong with either.

Verbatims aren't MIT's. They're MCC (Mitsubishi Chemical Corp.), except their DL's, which are made in Singapore. I've never seen Taiyo's code as MIJ either. They've always coded as TY for me.

Sony's that's made in Japan are MIJ. People say the Sony's made in Taiwan are MIT's, and pretty good too. I've not tried them myself. It's basically CMC Mags you want to stay away from. They give a lot of people, a lot of problems.
Good luck!

That's funny man! I think you got your Accros mixed up. i dont know where you live but in US and UK, Most if not ALL Verbatims are MIT (Made in Taiwan) and codes as MCC and TY are MIJ (made in Japan)and code TY.

Sony's are MIT and Code SONYD0XX and they certainly are not CMC's i think you need to stop giving flase info as your a senior member!

Well no wonder I've never had any discs code out as MIT! LOL. That is funny! I always thought MIT and MIJ, were codes for some discs. I've never seen them, so I thought it just happened that way.
Kinda embarrassing, now that I know.........<face turning red>
I won't make that mistake again! Thanks for clarifying that!

Actually, I was right, according to what you (BurningAs) said.
I never said that Sony's are CMC Mags. I know they're not. I've never used Taiwan made Sony's. I always get the MIJ's.
What I said was, "stay away from CMC Mags".

Most here consider TY's as the #1 media and verbatim's as the #2. I don't consider one as being better than the other. I consider them equil and personally I prefer and use verbatim DVD+R media. Never any skips, pausing, pixelation, or dye rot. I do feel that TY's -r media is a little better than verbatim's -r media however. One advantage of verbatim +r media is they are usually a little cheaper (in price) than TY +r's.

..and i swear by 'Verbatim TY' though lately have been using a load of normal Verbatim ie MCC003, which all work fine on my Benq DW1650's except for sometimes they take 15mins instead of 8mins at 8x (whereas my Verb TY are always 100% consistent). I got so many Verb TY and Verbs lying around i rarely check which i'm using, just grab and burn

LMAO. it's good though, being able to just grab and burn, then catch and watch;lke you there's no crash and burn (or should that be burn and crash), no skip and jerk, no crc swiftly following copy and paste

etc etc :)

OK. I'm still confused!

In my search for 8x DVD+R - One, My burner, a DW1620 won't take 16x and Two, I've been using TDK which have been quite successful. (I've also had a thread going about buying a new burner, but probably not necessary now)

Anyways, at my usual store on Tuesday, I noticed and bought some Verbatim DVD+R 8x and when I put them through DVD identifier, they coded out as Mitsubishi Chemical Co. media i.d. MCC003. Did a back-up of a movie called "Hidden" and got a perfect burn. Played it back that evening on the 5.1 and it was perfect. - result, I thought.

So, I returned to the store on Wednesday and bought 2 more packs, but when I got home they looked different, so I again ran one through DVD identifier and to my surprise, they coded out as DVD+R YUDEN000-T02-000 yet it says Verbatim on the box. (as I'd kept the movie file on the PC I did another burn, which was also perfect.)

Looking again at the label. On the first box, it says Made in India and the two new ones say Made in Japan. BTW I'm in the UK. Should I run back to the store and buy some more?

On my way man! Whats the betting they are all gone.

Another ridiculous question! but if I did update my burner -I'm leaning towards a Benq 1650, Everybody seems to like them. The reason being that 8x are increasingly difficult to find -

Would they still burn these 8x discs. OK I'll rephrase that. A while ago I bought some 16x Verbatims but they wouldn't burn on my 1620 no matter what speed I tried. Now, I understand that the the 1650 is capable of handling 16x discs. Therefore, I presume it could still handle the 8x?
