wifi is wireless internet, and the Wii comes wifi ready. I hope nintendo doesn't make everyone buy a wireless router, and hopefully you'll be able to hook the wii up to a more land-based internet connection.

Do you think it'll work if you have a bluetooth (i'm assuming they're the same thing) usb plug at the back of the computer?
basically from my deductions, we can play games online (hopefully something like teh XboxLive system), somehow we can also go to websites, or nintendo/thirdparty websites due to the fact that the Wii will come with an Opera web browser interface.
We can also download new content for games that we already have through the WiiConnect24 or whatever it's called.
Lastly, I think we can lan it using wifi, which will be coool (oh yeah, 3 o's)

hopefully it'll be a free experience,
downloading new game content will be free (hopefully most of them)
otherwise you could buy a prepaid card, or link your credit/debit card with it and it'll automatically take money from it.
WiFi is wireless internet, and unlike what i previously stated it is not like bluetooth at all,(my bad)

online service is free, just like wifi with the DS.
WiiConnect24 should be free as well.
The only thing that will cost money is for virtual console downloads (download old-school nes, snes, genesis, turbografx etc games) or an online service for an mmorpg from another third party.

I think you'll be able to use the same piece of hardware used for the Nintendo WiFi on DS. it's a little usb device that you plug into your computer that uses your internet connection to connect Nintendo devices wirelessly.
If you have a wifi router, you don't need it. If you don't want to buy the wireless adapter, you'll be able to use a network cable (with a usb LAN adapter).
Quote: Users can connect wirelessly using IEEE 802.11b/g, or with a USB 2.0 LAN adaptor. Wii also can communicate wirelessly with Nintendo DS.

Quote: With support for Flash and AJAX-based content such as Google maps, Wii users will benefit from a feature-rich Internet experience that is uniquely customized for the Wii. Opera for Wii boasts the same complete standards support as the Opera 9 Desktop browser, and includes the added functionality of ?Zoom? and ?Bookmarks?. The Wii remote control will also be an integral part of browsing, allowing users to intuitively control the Web with their Wii remotes.
Flash and AJAX support has been announced, not sure about the rest. Youtube uses Flash to play videos, so it will work.
I wonder if we'll be able to download mp3s and videos with the browser (since the "picture viewer" channel allows movie and mp3 playback)

I have a feeling that like the PSP, it will be fairly limited, due to concern over maliscious code, etc, that can be hidden inside videos, songs, and even photos. That's not to say that it couldn't be completely open, but it seems less likely that will occur.
Bugging me even more is the fact that multiple sources are claiming conflicting info about the Opera browser being free till next July. I really just want to know. If I have to put out ten bucks for the browser, I'll do it, so long as it can do at *least* 480p for regular web browsing, I would much prefer 720 or 1080, but I don't expect that from a 704Mhz machine.

The Opera browser will be free for download until July. After that users will have to use Wii points to download it.
That is all I know.

Well, considering the nature of their online gaming system, I don't think we'll have any of this 'friend code' nonsense to deal with. As for usernames, I am so exstatic to be getting a unit on day one, so as to get my username set right away, it has apparently become a popular selection in the last couple years... Kind of odd, but what can you do.
I'm just very eager to get my unit, but I'm going to have to end up doing some trades in order to get the rest of it paid, things got tight. But I am psyched to be getting my mits onto one soon!

@Lexz
Um... Wow. Those nicknames are really cool. Are you one of those people who picks an 'uber cool leet name' every month? I'm hoping not, because those people are the reason that it's so hard to make a username on any established servers these days.
Your usernames may have signifigance to you, and if so, they are golden. If they don't, since you've got some time, you may consider finding one that does. They tend to be easier to get; and honestly, it gets really old playing a game with:
1PWNY0UZ
u5uckzorzez
m@st@pl@y@
5up3ru83r7334m@n
Honestly, these names mean nothing, they show that their user is 'trendy', geeky, and most times; temporary. If you're wanting to make a good username, don't hesitate to go for something truly unique, adding numbers and symbols to your id doesn't make you unique, it makes you look like all the posers out there. If you look at gaming championships, you might note the top players don't identify by collections of symbols and numbers; but unique names that stand out for their originality. I prefer my usernames to be memorable; I hope that when I play rainbow six online, other gamers recognize me from mechassault, rather than just brushing me off as another poser. Please understand, I'm not saying that you ARE a poser; you're a fellow senior member here, odds are you're not. Just make sure you don't blend in with the ones who are.

Do either of these names have actual significance to you? Or do they just sound kind of cool to you?
Something abot a username that says "I'm number one".... That's kind of less than cool. Do you have an actual unique nickname in real life? Because really, I'm sure your friends don't actually walk up to you and say "Hey there, Ownat1on. How are you today?" Just a thought. But hey, like I said, if you really really like those names, and they mean something to you; then honestly, more power to you.
[*Secretly hopes you pick hulkulese, because it is a unique name that doesn't sound like a wannabe haxorz. Although Hercules is the correct spelling, rather than Herculese, lol.*]
