Can you hack the firmware of a philips dvd rom drive for the original xbox??

I want to know if there is a firmware hack for the philips dvd rom drive for the original xbox not 360. I want to do this instead of a mod chip. any info would be GREAT

I've never heard of one. As I recall, the only guy that ever bothered to do any firmware hacks of the original drives wast The Specialist, and he never publicly released them.

You'd be better off soft modding if you don't want to install a chip anyway. A firmware hack would be rather limited anyway.
