Quote: If this doesn?t make you jump up in your chairs and run to ?Mommy? asking her to buy you a 2.80 PSP, I don?t know what will! Well, this news may not be enough for one to buy a new PSP, but it definitely is worth jumping out of your chair in pure excitement.
The ?Noobz? team has released the first homebrew game for 2.80 PSP?s (as well as 2.70 and 2.71). This game will also work on all firmwares from 2.0-2.80 firmwares, although 2.80 gets the most benefit out of this game as it is the "trickest" firmware that we have exploited. This single piece of homebrew is the simple game of Tetris and is made possible by the recent libtiff vulnerability that has been exploited. With previous exploits, Tetris games have been used to demonstrate the exploit, and this one is no exception.
?Noobz? has developed this game for users to enjoy, and it also demonstrates that the exploit is definetly "usable". The 2.80 is very capable of running homebrew (user-mode), but all it needs is a kick in the right direction. This homebrew game is exactly the kick we need. As for the other firmwares, 2.71 can already be downgraded with Dark_Alex's downgrader, so this is a huge milestone for 2.80 (can't be downgraded).
Even though there is no eLoader on 2.80 at this time, the team has taken the liberty to release instructions on how to make homebrew ?2.80 compatible?. For those curious youngsters who want to know how this was made possible, just download the SDK package that does exactly that ? shows you how it was made (coding experience is a good thing to have if you wish to understand it). Instructions on how to create compatible homebrew are also found in the SDK download
Quote: Well, here it is, the first non-flash homebrew game for v2.70-v2.80. It's that old favourite, Tetris! Here's a picture of it in action. Now that might seem exciting. But it's not all.
This Tetris was built with our other new announcement of today - a mini-SDK for programming simple homebrew on 2.0 - 2.80. Which means that the door is open for more simple homebrew applications to be written for 2.70-2.80.
Non-programmers can download the Tetris game by clicking here. Programmers can download the SDK here. Full instructions are included in the SDK, that should allow experienced PSP coders to develop their own TIFF-based programs.
Please be aware that this is a restricted environment, due to the extra security in 2.70+. The README.TXT in the SDK explains the implications, but basically the number of available system calls is limited, so only fairly simple programs can be made.
We will follow up with a more fully-featured eLoader in the future, but for now, we thought it would be nice to release this so that 2.70+ users would have something to do while they wait!
UPDATE: Some people have had problems running the TIFF homebrew. Here are some tips that may help:
Make sure that you unzip the package so that the 3 files (.tif, .bin and .jpg) are all in a single folder, called 'tetris', within the /psp/photo/ folder on your memory stick.
Reboot your PSP completely (by holding the power switch for a few seconds until it switches off) before opening the TIFF.
Instead of opening the TIFF directly, try opening the folder as a slideshow, by pressing TRIANGLE
Quote: Coders Percival and Robert A. have just released their second homebrew game, which runs on fw2.70 to 2.80: TIFF Pong v0.1. It's a simple game of Pong that makes use of the TIFF exploit along with the 2.70-2.80 SDK that was just recently released by Noobz.
Since this is a TIFF game, the creators have instructed that to install this game, one will have to place the "Pong" folder into the "Photo" folder of the memory card. Entering the "Pong" folder will cause the game to start automatically.
At the moment, the developers also pointed out that the game cannot be properly exited yet and that the Screenshot capability has not yet been put into place. They have noted that these will be fixed soon.
awww :P thats 2 u have posted now maD :P spammer!!! lol
its nice to see 2.80 getting in on the homebrew action, this is the first step toward a downgrader, or eloader with backwards compatibility with all user mode brews, hurray!!111!!!!
