I have a DELL XPS laptop- only 6 mos old.
I tried yesterday to burn CD's for the first time. I just dragged and dropped in Windows Explorer.
The first disk burned fine.
After that, I kept getting the error message "place unrecorded disk in the drive tray" Of course, there WAS an unrecorderd disk in the drive tray and I swapped out several more and tried several brands to no avail.
Dell spent 4 hours with me on support before the rep finally agreed that the drive had to be replaced.
But then he said that my drive was only for burning CD's- not DVD's. Said it was DVD read only.
On my invoice it is described as "8X DVD+/-RW drive 1630M/X.
(No mention of CD's at all on the invoice)
I THOUGHT I had a drive that would burn both CD and DVD disks.
Can anyone clarify the terminolgy for me?
To find your drive's make...go to storage, then optical drives
BTW...if you are dragging and dropping DVDS, AFAIK it won't work. You need a program. Most drives nowadays come with OEM Nero. Not sure about Dells though.
I hope you got that download, as it appears the link is no longer. It was the "last freeware version". The company that took over now wants you to purchase the newer version.
BTW. I find my usb flash drive is becoming more and more handy for saving these programs that are here today, gone tomorrow.

Glad you were able to get it sorted out with Dell. Hope they sent you a DVD burner.
The link for the old version of Everest is now working again, guess the server was down. I believe when they say unsupported, it means the company will no longer give online support / your on your own to figure things out. No more updates/development to keep up with technology. Whether the Lavalys online forum will help you with questions, I don't know.
