I have an episodic disc with 7 episodes which is about 7.2 gb. I would like, no make that LOVE, to get these all on one disc. Please let me know how this is possible. I know that the episodic discs make extra trouble for ppl, but someone must know the answer to this persistent problem.
I guess since I have the originals, I would like to see how the compression works and whether or not I can deal with the loss. I am absolutely against bringing out my originals whenever possible, especially considering I have two toddlers running around playing with Everything they can get their hands on. I want to back up my immense library with as little time and effort possible (I own 275 dvd's presently) I don't want to have to copy those onto 600 discs or something if I can avoid it.
Anyway, like I stated earlier, I would like to see how it comes out first and if its too noticeable, I would put them on two discs, which be like 16 discs or so just for my Band of Brothers collection and Family guy.. Anyway, any more help would be appreciated and thanks for the reply..
To get these multi-episode DVDs onto one disc there are two options:
1) DVD2One, which has a full-disc option. Just rip the entire DVD to your hard-drive, use IFOEdit to remove any audio or subtitle streams that you don't need, and then run DVD2One (in full disc mode) to compress it to one disc. This will keep all of the menues intact.
2) CloneDVD. I haven't tried this software yet, but there is a 30-day, fully functional trial available. The nice thing about this program is that it will let you choose to keep the menues while eliminating any uneeded audio or subtitle streams - meaning you won't need to use IFOEdit.
I have heard a lot of talk about the quality suffering a lot if you compress multi-episode DVD9s to DVD5. However, as movies like "Minority Report" are up around 7Gbs and look fine after compressign with DVD2One, I don't see why multi-ep DVDs should be that much worse.
Tosca, how do you get from one episode to another by using that method? I've found that you have to keep hitting the "skip forward" button, and then fast forward through the last chapter of an episode. Then if you go past an episode you have to eject the disc and start over; it won't let you reverse.
I guess I'm not picky and not anal about how my episodal backups come out. As long as the darned thing works...
With Power DVD XP, there is a "go to" option that lets you select the chapters, if I am not mistaken, without having to "skip to next" from the start of the disc. Standalones probably should have a similar function, although I can't recall if that is the case.
Hey Everyone, I used DVDDecrypter and DVD2One v1.2 with GREAT results. Although it may have something to do with the fact that it is a hand drawn cartoon, I wasn't able to see any real compression artifacts. I left all the menus intact (7 episodes!) and only used the English subtitles. I will have to try this with my Band Of Brothers and see if it works as well. Thanks for all the input fella's, hopefully I can return the favor soon.. Cheers!!
